There is more than twice the amount of people sleeping rough in England as there is giant pandas living in the wild?
a giant panda will create a den to keep itself safe, a rough sleeper will seek any shelter that may keep them dry for a night?
On average, a giant’ panda’s habitat is around 1.9 square miles.. A rough sleeper can walk up to 10 miles a day to find suitable shelter for the night?
Giant Pandas can spend 12 - 16 hours a day eating, a rough sleeper may not eat for 1 - 2 days at a time?
Let’s stop people sleeping rough in Telford, and be a bit more like Pandas.
Carry The Load is our annual fundraiser, a fun day for all to take part, in which we put a twist on the traditional charity bed push. Yes that’s right, we don’t push our beds, we carry them!
This year we are going all panda themed, as you may have already guessed. We are calling it: Carry the load - Panda Parade,
So we’re asking participants to dress like a panda, be it full on panda suits, painted faces, or t-shirts with pandas on them, go with whatever your imagination can come up with.
It’s a day to help raise money and awareness of homelessness in Telford, and to celebrate all the good work that is taking place in our borough to support those who sleep rough on our streets.
We will meet in the Market Square in Wellington at 11am, and carry our mattresses, or bedding, to Southwater Square in Telford. Our route will take us from Wellington, through Hadley, Oakengates and finally central Telford.
We will stop for refreshments on route, giving an extra opportunity to collect donations from Saturday shoppers.
Our aim is to raise money and awareness, but most of all, to have lots of fun along the way.
