Support Worker - Ref: ABSW30


 The Accommodation Based Support Service provides tailored support plans to customers residing in temporary accommodation and is designed to reduce this risk of a return to rough living. Through a person-centred approach, obtainable objectives are designed with  the purpose of encouraging and promoting individual success, becoming tenant ready, being able to live a life of independence and reaching their own identified aspirations.   

As a Support Worker, you will be a key part of helping customers reach their full potential through highly motivated and positive support sessions, engaging group activities and confident delivery of responsive support.  

Hours of work

30 hours per week working to a rolling 2-week rota that will include evening and alternate weekend work.

Salary & Benefits

£9.32 per hour (annual salary £14,539). Fixed-term contract ending 31st March 2023. Contract extension is dependant upon the securing of future funding streams.

Access to work-based pension scheme, annual leave entitlement and mileage expense for in work travel.

Qualification & experience

Experience in housing, homelessness, support services, health and social care, criminal justice system or related relevant experience in providing support, advice and guidance. Must be computer literate with experience of using Microsoft Office programmes.

Location of work

Working from a location in central Telford and operating across the Telford and Wrekin area as required by the service.

Job Summary

To provide support in short-term supported accommodation to a high standard, assisting people through the implementation of individual planned support agreements and accessing appropriate additional support services.  Support customers who have led chaotic lifestyles in maintaining and developing their tenancy skills through to the transition of more permanent accommodation, as well as other aspects of their lives that will enable them to thrive.

Person specifications



Experience of working with the Homelessness/Housing, Social Care setting /Supporting People Programme (or similar) or comparable services.


Have experience and/or qualification in support services, health and social care or related relevant experience providing advice and guidance.


Have experience of guidance with personal financial management


Demonstrate effective communication and presentation skills.


Car owner and driver with clean UK driving licence or independent means of travel to clients and external meetings.


Demonstrate a clear understanding of the issues facing those who are homeless and their non-statutory status.


Demonstrate relevant knowledge of the criminal justice system and the drivers that impact on offending behaviour.


Demonstrate relevant knowledge of Mental Health issues and he impact on individual's ability to make positive decisions.


Demonstrate relevant knowledge on the social impact of legal/illegal migrant status and the issues faced.


Demonstrate knowledge of working with vulnerability, disability, cultural sensitivity and equal opportunities.


Ability to develop group work to maximise the support provision for individuals.


To work effectively within the immediate and wider staff team.


Demonstrate ability to use word processing, databases, & report writing.


Demonstrate ability to work flexibly, independently, be self- motivated, non-judgemental and as a lone worker.


Identify a commitment to working with Maninplace policies and procedures.


Demonstrate experience of providing accommodation base support activities.


Demonstrate relevant experience of support planning and the enablement of the service user experience.
