Our Covid-19 response - updated July 2021

Covid-19 is having a huge impact across all sections of society and poses a very serious threat to the most vulnerable of our local communities. During these difficult times it is important for everyone to play their part to help save lives and protect the NHS.

KiP@Maninplace & Maninplace is committed to supporting those who experience homelessness or rough living across the borough of Telford and Wrekin during the pandemic, and will work round the clock alongside our partners at Telford & Wrekin Council, Stay-Telford and Wellington YMCA to help reduce the risk of Coronavirus affecting those on the streets or about to become homeless.

Our amended service & protection measures

For the protection of our dedicated team members and customers, it has been necessary to put in place an amended service. At present, our central offices and KiP@Maninplace Walk-in centre in Wellington remains closed to the public. Our staff are offering telephone support and appointments for anyone who is registering as homeless.

The KiP@Maninplace team continue to provide support Monday to Friday, 9am - 4pm and can be reached by calling 01952 248248, “option 1”.

From Monday 2nd of August 2021, KiP@Maninplace will again be offering face to face appointments. The number of visitors in the building will be restricted to ensure ample social distancing. All persons entering the building will be asked to have their temperature taken, requested to wear a face covering during their visit, to use hand sanitiser on entry and departure and to provide contact details for track and trace purposes. Counselling rooms and communal areas will be sanitised by a dedicated team member after every customer has left the KiP@Maninplace centre.

Out of hours calls will continue to be answered by our Homelessness Services team, 7 days a week; they will liaise with our local partners to ensure anyone at risk of rough sleeping is offered accommodated and protected where possible from the risks of COVID-19.

Additional measures have been implemented at our emergency accommodation to protect staff and customers on site. All professional service visitors will be required to make an appointment with our team and will be required to use hand sanitise and wear face coverings throughout their visit. Track and trace contact details will also be required for any professional visiting the premises.

Restrictions already in operation preventing family and friends visiting customers at their homes will remain active for the foreseeable future. We do recognise this measure will not be easy for some, but our utmost objective is the safety of all our customers and staff and we hope you will respect and be patient with our team if you are asked not to attend a site during this time.

If our telephone lines are busy when you call us, please try again a little later. It maybe that our team are already responding to others in need, and we would ask for your patience as we try to respond as quickly as possible.

We regularly review these protection measures and use current government, NHS, Public Health England and Local Authority guidance when making our decisions.

How you can help

We have been asked how the public can assist during these challenging times, so here are some ways in which you can support us.

We are accepting food donations which will be used to support those who are struggling financially, or maybe in isolation and without a support network. Storage space is limited, particularly for perishable items, so we would ask that your donations are non-perishable. Your donations can include treats such as chocolates or sweets, which will bring a little extra joy for those who are finding isolation a difficult experience, but please, no alcohol.

Food items can be dropped at our KiP@Maninplace offices in Wellington, Mon-Fri, 9-4:30.

All customers accommodated at our emergency accommodation are supplied with a brand new single duvet, pillow, fitted sheet, duvet cover and pillow case. We will always welcome donations of these items but do ask that they are new and in their seal bags please. New items not only make it easier for us to store, but they also offer a big boost to the self-esteem of our customers, particularly those who have lost all their personal belongings.

New bedding items can be dropped at our KiP@Maninplace offices in Wellington, Mon-Fri, 9-4:30.

Financial support:
Extra measures have been put in place to offer enhanced support to the homeless community during the Covid-19 pandemic, your financial support will help us continue to offer extra support as lockdown continues. If you wish to pledge a financial gift, please click the “Make a donation” button on our Home page or click here.

Let us know about rough sleepers:
If you see someone sleeping rough, please call us on 01952 248248 and give as much detail as possible to our responding team member. We will liaise with outreach workers to ensure contact is made and support is put in place where possible and accepted.

Thank you for your support during these challenging times.
