Maninplace is partnering with Stay, YMCA, Telford & Wreikin Council and other organisations in our local community to raise awareness of homelessness on World Homeless Day.
In preparation for the big day we are launching a campaign called #PassThePillow, which, with your help, will have the potential to go global.
The idea behind the campaign is to encourage the general public to get talking about homelessness, to become familiar with services and organisations in their local area who are ready and available to help those sleeping rough or who maybe about to become homeless; and to create a platform off which we can help educate local communities about the impact of homelessness and some of its possible causes.
Using your smartphone or camera, you can help be part of this awareness campaign, and perhaps, could help change a life of someone who is homeless.
Here’s how you can take part…
What you will need:
A video enabled smartphone or camera, a pillow and a tripod or willing volunteer to hold your phone/camera for you.
What you need to do:
Using your smartphone / camera mounted on a tripod or held by your willing volunteer, we would like you to take a short video of yourself (no more than 20 seconds please).
In your video, we would like you to grab hold of your pillow coming in from the left hand side as if someone was passing it to you.
Whilst holding your pillow, we would like you to say the following:
“Hello, My name is …..” (first name only)
“I live in ……” (Town or city you are located)
“Today, on World Homeless Day, I am passing this pillow around the globe to raise awareness of the many people who are living rough or have become homeless. Please pass it on. #PassThePillow”.
Now pass your pillow to the right of you as if you were handing it to the next person.
Once you have completed your video, please click the button below to upload your video.
Then ask your friends around the world to do the same. Share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other contact method you use to connect with your friends and family. The more videos we can get, the better!
What happens next?
Once we have collected all the videos, they will be stitched together into a montage of clips that will be launched across our social media platforms and website on World Homeless Day. The more people we can get to talk about homelessness, the greater awareness!
